Summary

As a journeyman position this job has high level mechanical skills related to molding machines, auxiliary systems, and a manufacturing plant's general infrastructure needs.

Responsibilities

  • Commitment to safety is a #1 priority.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager in meeting the team/plant goals, searching for cost savings opportunities, and managing down time.

Position Requirements

A. Basic Understanding of machine systems including: hydraulics, mechanical, pneumatics, basic electricity, and water systems.

  1. Basic or entry level competency with reading and/or understanding electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.

  2. Basic operational and/or functional knowledge of Bekum, Aoki or Nissei equipment.

  3. Basic operational and/or functional knowledge of AEC Dryer Units, Oil Units, Portable Chillers, Compressors, Material Granulators, Conveyors, and Industrial Lift Trucks.

B. Entry Level competency with troubleshooting minor electrical malfunctions with the use of instrumentation, i.e., amps probe, digital voltmeter, analog meter, or multi-purpose meter.

  1. Competent at shop wiring of power and control circuits of industrial equipment.

C. Entry Level competency with troubleshooting and/or repairing minor hydraulic and pneumatic issues.

  1. Understand nomenclatures on parts and equipment to properly select replacement components and piping for existing systems.

  2. Entry Level competency with pump changeover installations and similar system modifications/repairs.

  3. Basic understanding and abilities of rebuilding pumps, valves and cylinders.

D. Entry Level competency of troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing mechanical malfunctions. Basic understanding and ability to read and comprehend mechanical drawings and how they relate to the sequence of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams.

  1. Entry Level competency in repairing, replacing or installing conveyor systems.

  2. Entry Level competency with repairing water pumps and cooling systems. Competent at repairing most problems with the vacuum handling system.

  3. Competent at repairing and maintaining grinders.

E. Competent in communicating with fellow workers and supervision.

  1. Able to assist other mechanics or vendors during on-site Preventative Maintenance or repairs.

  2. Basic ability and understanding with reading and interpreting: blueprints, ladder diagrams and technical manuals.

  3. Proficient in using component parts and parts manual.

F. Must have a firm understanding and ability to fabricate with various metals.

  1. Knowledgeable with proper welding processes: mig tig, gas, brazing, Heli-Arc and arc welder.

  2. Basic shop machine operation of the following equipment: lathe, mill, horizontal band saw, vertical band saw, calipers and micrometers.

G. Entry Level competency with troubleshooting, calibrating and repairing oil circulating and water heating units.

H. Entry Level competency with compressed air, tower water and chilled water systems.

I. Be able to set up support and auxiliary equipment.

  1. Including Sterlco's, AEC units, material dryers, spin trimmers and miscellaneous customer specific equipment.

  2. Calibrate extrusion heads in support of head changes.

J. Must know and follow all GMP/ Food Safety procedures.

K. Must be able to work safely and follow safety rules and JSA procedures.

L. Must be able to identify and report violations and unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel.

M. Must be able to wear protective clothing as hair net, hard hat, steel toed boots, gloves, long-sleeved shirt, and earplugs.

N. Must be able to effectively respond in an emergency situation such as earthquakes, fire, and accident.

O. Must be able to follow all department procedures and directives.

All of the above are essential job functions.

A. High school diploma or equivalent and appropriate vocational training.

F. Basic math skills.

  1. Able to add, subtract, divide, multiply with decimals and fractions.

  2. Able to convert between English and metric measurement systems.

G. Able to work overtime on any shift on short notice.
