As the flagship hospital of CHI Franciscan Health, St. Joseph Medical Center continues to be the regional leader in the use of advanced medical technologies and therapies.The 361-bed regional medical center is a level II trauma center with a robust cardiac surgery program that has recently received Three Star Awards for our thoracic and cardiac programs. Our main OR suite includes 11 operating rooms (two are cardiac) and an additional 9 operating rooms at the adjacent Walters Day Surgery Center. We also have two operating rooms at an ambulatory surgery center in nearby Gig Harbor. Combined, we perform over 16,500 cases per year, including trauma, cardiothoracic, vascular, general, neurosurgery, orthopedics, urology, spine, ENT, gynecology. We provide 24/7 staffing in the main OR.

Our Surgical Services Leadership team includes a Director, 3 Perioperative Clinical Managers, 2 Perianesthesia Clinical managers, a Sterile Processing Manager and an RN Educator. Combined, these leaders have over 100 years of nursing and leadership experience and they truly enjoy mentoring and developing staff members.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:Surgical Technician provides, as an integral part of the medical practitioner team, surgical care to patients to facilitate safe and effective completion of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Under the guidance of surgeons, nurses, or other designated personnel, the incumbent performs preoperative, intra-operative and postoperative duties within the scope of licensure to ensure that the operating room or environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Incumbents are also accountable for utilizing and keeping current on the application of sterile and aseptic technique, surgical procedures, implementation tools and technologies, human anatomy as well as collaborating and communicating effectively with the inter-disciplinary team to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive and therapeutic procedures.

Qualifications

Job Requirements: Graduation from surgical technology program accredited through Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology ARC-ST. A minimum of six months operating room work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities is preferred. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing may be substituted for graduation from an accredited surgical technician program. If classified as Surgical Technician: Maintain Registration with the State of Washington. Registered nurses and/or practical nurses acting within the scope of their licensure do not need to maintain surgical technologist registration. If classified as Surgical Technician, Certified: Current certification through the Association of Surgical Technologists is required.Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
