Description The IT System Administrator Entry is a classified staff position reporting to the Infrastructure and CyberSecurity Lead. This position's role is to support the stable operation of the college's server infrastructure. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing servers and associated devices. They assist other Information Technology staff in the integration of new and existing systems within the college. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manages the college's VMWare VSAN cluster, including recycling virtual servers, deploying new virtual servers, and maintaining the nodes in the cluster (for example firmware and storage driver updates) Manages and supports the Active Directory environment Takes ownership of the Group Policy environment, setting standards, troubleshooting policies, and working with desktop administrators in deployment of client-side policies Assists with Office 365 administration, including using PowerShell & scripting to support automated account creation and lifecycle, license assignment, and feature deployment Manages and maintains the campus antispam and messaging server protection Manages and configures on-prem Exchange environment and mailboxes Assists managing server backup and recovery in Veaam environment, plus off-site cloud archiving Understands the security requirements established by federal, state, and the WA state OCIO offices for the security of our server infrastructure. Works with campus InfoSec staff to meet or exceed these requirements. Manages file server permissions and inheritance Manages and maintains DNS and DHCP Manages and maintains campus-wide wireless network Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. COMPETENCIES/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES Comfortable modifying existing PowerShell and batch files Writes new PowerShell scripts for automation of Active Directory, Office 365/Azure AD, and more Network application support experience. Working technical knowledge of current messaging systems software, protocols, and standards. Basic SQL for scripting purposes. Understanding of the organization's goals and objectives. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to conduct research into networking and technology issues and products as required. Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strong customer service orientation. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times. Required Bachelor degree (or working toward) in information technology, business or related field or 3+ years' experience in information technology or related activities. The employee is required to stand and or walk on a frequent basis throughout their assigned shift. Periods of prolong standing are required with various tasks such as installing or removing cables/wires. The employee is required to sit on an occasional basis throughout their assigned shift for such tasks as configuring software.
