Youth come to our secure program and engage in treatment that focuses on building skills and relationships to successfully transition home or another less restrictive placement.The swing shift LPN will work closely with the RN and prescribers as an integral part of the medication management process. The ideal nurse will enhance our multidisciplinary team consisting of a psychiatrist, developmental pediatrician, psychiatric ARNP, nurses, residential counselors, recreational therapists, case managers, certified peers, and individual/family therapists. We also have the pleasure of working with amazing teachers from Tacoma Public Schools, equine therapists from Healing Hearts Ranch, and more.Function: Provide nursing and medical services to the residents of the Children's Residential Treatment Facility. Serves as a member of an organization that welcomes, engages, and helps individuals with complex wellness needs. Responsibilities:* Provide nursing and medical services to residents.* Administer and document medications adhering to state and program guidelines.* Observe and assess residents in terms of therapeutic response to medication and the nursing care plan.* Facilitate education regarding prescribed medication and medical treatment to residents, families, and staff.* Document the provision of care, medical status, and behavioral observations of residents.* Provide emergency medical care as needed.* Receive and transcribe medication orders, treatment, lab, and dietary orders; navigate the electronic prescribing program.* Provide medical information to multi-disciplinary team as needed.* Write medical summaries as assigned, using the electronic health record* Implement nursing treatment approaches as designated through a nursing care plan.* Assist residents in daily living activities.* Perform medical duties on shift as delegated by registered nurse, nurse lead, or nursing team supervisor.* Assist in monitoring and documenting medical supplies, floor stock, and pharmacy communication.* Document, monitor, and assist in all aspects of the laboratory process.* Serve as a member of the Pearl Youth Residence Medical Team. Function within PYR Multi-disciplinary Team.* Assist in infection control protocols; report resident or staff risk, exposure, symptomology, or concern to Nurse Lead or CLR Infection Control RN as needed.* Ensure the care, safety, and supervision of residents on the therapeutic milieu through positive interactions and direct proactive supervision.* Utilize individualized and tailored care, in consideration of the specific needs and strengths of residents.* Instruct, assist, and provide skill development to residents regarding daily living activities, life skills, social skills, vocational skills, and leisure/recreation skills and activities.* Plan and lead educational and information groups for residents as assigned.* Interact professionally, cooperatively, and promptly with other team members in crisis situations.* Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with residents.* Ensure effective communication among team members during and between shifts.* Coordinate with school, milieu, and nursing staff regarding outside medical appointments, home visits or passes, and outings.* Transport and attend medical appointments with residents* Work with team members to create and contribute to a positive learning environment for all.* Document and submit reports on all accidents, special treatment approaches, and extraordinary occurrences.* Report unsafe conditions and needed repairs to Nurse Lead, Safety Officer, or Medical Services Manager.* Actively seek, schedule, and participate in performance supervision, in-service trainings, and nursing meetings. * Utilize appropriate problem resolution activities and supervisory support when necessary to resolve conflicts.* Ensure that ethical and professional standards of practice are maintained.* In addition to the above, perform other duties as assigned.Competencies:* Demonstrates ability to assess and document urgent and ongoing medical issues associated with residents.* Ability to utilize general medical equipment to assess medical needs* Demonstrates the ability to give Intramuscular, Subcutaneous, and Intradermal injections according to facility procedures* Demonstrates ability to prepare and administer oral, topical, sprays, medications using the five rights of medication delivery* Ensures laboratory tests are ordered, prepared, documented, and sent to the Lab using appropriate agency protocols.* Communicates client needs to the Psychiatrist in a timely manner.* Schedules, transports, and attends all outside medical appointments and communicates the results to the appropriate staff.* Updates and answers questions of family members about resident's medical concerns in a timely manner* Demonstrates the ability to complete nursing assessments, document risk and notify. * Demonstrate effective communication both orally and in writing.* Ensure documentation and assessments are completed in a time manner, and documented appropriately* Demonstrates appropriate boundaries and values.* Demonstrates professional demeanor, behavior, and communication.* Promote whole health care as a key to people's recovery and quality of life.* Demonstrate empathy, hopefulness, and resourcefulness in communication with others* Use "recovery" language (ex. respectful, hopeful, person-centered, non-judgmental).Qualifications:* WA State Licensed Practical Nurse licensure.* Strongly preferred:* 1-year experience working with children and/or adolescents. * Experience or fluid knowledge of psychotropic medications. * Work history including child development, inpatient mental health, crisis intervention, or individual, group, and family counseling. * New nursing graduates must possess a thorough understanding of inpatient psychiatric treatment with an ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.* Current CPR certification.* Skilled in MS Word and Outlook. * Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills.* Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work independently, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality.* Valid Washington State driver's license; proof of insurance.* Food Handlers CardEquipment/Machines Used: Computer, tablet, printer, copier, fax, and telephone.Medical Equipment Used: Blood Pressure Cuff, stethoscope, scale, oximeter, thermometer, otoscope, diabetic supplies, medication administration devices, routine treatment care such as ear irrigation systems.Physical Requirements: Willingness to certify in Handle with Care (physical crisis intervention). Physical ability to be stationery, traverse stairs, and a large office environment.
