Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. 3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization. Experience in developing query processing engines for a SQL relational database or large-scale distributed systems. Experience in distributed computing. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $207,000-$300,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities Drive the design and execution of high-performance components within BigQuery’s execution engine, including query optimizers and control plane components. Improve the price-performance and scale of the engine, ensuring solutions are efficient to operate, easy to maintain, and highly reliable. Partner with infrastructure teams (e.g., Colossus, MindMeld) and product teams to shape the future of the analytics experience. Foster a healthy, transparent, and collaborative team culture. Be responsible for recruiting top talent, mentoring executive engineers, and improving team velocity and quality.
