producer of wood fence boards, specializing in Western Red Cedar
and other premium species found in the Pacific and Inland Northwest
forests. In addition to producing fence boards and pallet stock
lumber, Alta's zero-wood-waste sawmills produce by-products such as
wood chips, sawdust, mulch, and bio-fuel. Headquartered in
centrally-located Chehalis, Washington, Alta operates fence board
sawmills in four rural communities in the region: Morton, WA;
Shelton, WA; Amanda Park, WA, and Naples, ID.The Role:As an HR
Specialist located at our Morton Mill will be responsible for the
coordination of the human resources function by providing expertise
and support for the mill in all aspects of HR including hourly
recruitment, onboarding, performance management, discipline, and
employee relations. You will work closely with mill leadership and
Corporate Headquarters. This role is critical in executing our key
HR initiatives and providing available and responsive internal
employee support. The individual in this position will report to
the Corporate HR Manager and is responsible for a number of
specific tasks but not limited to the outline below:What You'll
Do
- Actively support the staffing and recruiting efforts for the
mill to include candidate contact, interview scheduling,
compilation and organization of interviewer feedback, and ATS
administration. Facilitating pre-employment activities, including
offer letters, onboarding, and drug screens.
- Manage/Coordinate all required paperwork and employee forms
related to hiring, employment, and off-boarding including
e-Verify.
- Manage administrative aspects of the internal hourly bid job
process.
- Assist with new hire orientation and onboarding.
- Be accessible to all employees by routinely spending time in
the mill and following up on concerns and issues as they
arise.
- Assist with research for HR-related projects and
initiatives.
- Assist with planning and coordinating companywide activities
that encourage and build a strong team environment.
- Administer company policies and programs to ensure
compliance.
- Assist employees with HR, benefit, and payroll-related
inquiries or requests and act as liaison with various internal and
external resources as needed.
- Coordinate and maintain required HR and payroll records and
documents for hourly employees which may include personnel files,
benefit enrollment forms, and payroll records.
- Facilitate absence management programs such as FMLA, STD/LTD,
PSL, etc.
- Partner with Safety as needed to provide case management
support for workers' comp claims and training support.
- Prepare reports and presentations for internal
communications.
- Other duties as assigned by the Corporate HR Manager and/or
Mill Manager.
Requirements:
What You Offer
- 2+ years of experience in human resources or related field with
union experience preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Having
previous ATS and HRIS experience would be ideal.
- Basic understanding of principles of HR management and
government compliance requirements.
- Ability to effectively listen and communicate clear and concise
information in an accurate informative manner.
- Self-directed with the ability to work on multiple projects
with competing priorities and deadlines. Strong prioritization and
organizational skills and attention to detail required
- A high degree of integrity (i.e., maintain the confidentiality
of sensitive information, ensure the integrity of HR and personnel
data/files, etc.).
- Able to perform independently without direction, guidance,
prompting, or checking. Utilizes sound judgment in resolving
administrative issues, conflicts, and priorities.
- Inherently capable and professional when interfacing with all
levels of the company, vendors, and other personnel. Routinely
