Job Title: Critical Care Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 1845-0715 Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 3 years in critical care License: Valid professional license within the state of practice / nurse licensure compact Certifications: Valid BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association Must-Have: Verification of suicide training and demographic data via Nursys e-Notify Description: Critical Care Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. Responsibilities include consulting and coordinating with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. Nurses prepare and administer prescribed medications, documenting and reporting any adverse reactions in accordance with policy. They provide basic bedside care and initiate patient education plans as prescribed by physicians. Nurses teach patients and significant others how to manage their illness or injury. Responsibilities also include recording patients' medical information and vital signs. They order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions. Nurses collect samples for lab work and evaluate lab reports accordingly. They prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments. In emergency situations, nurses respond based on established nursing standards and protocols. All care information must be recorded accurately and in a timely manner. Nurses apply hemodynamic, phlebotomy, and IV protocols as needed. They monitor specialized equipment used on patients and interpret electronic displays, such as vital signs and cardiac rhythms. Nurses ensure proper placement and functioning of catheters, leads, and tubing. They take corrective action when monitoring equipment indicates adverse symptoms. Additional housing options are available for those needing accommodations.
