QuarterLine is currently seeking full-time, Certified Medical Assistants to join our team at Joint Base Lewis McChord in Tacoma, Washington. As an employee of QuarterLine, you will have the opportunity to treat active duty personnel, military retirees, eligible veterans, and their enrolled family members at Madigan Army Medical Center. About : As the U.S. Army's second largest medical treatment facility and a state-of-the-art and technologically advanced medical center, Madigan is one of only two designated Level II trauma centers in Army Medicine and one of four in the state of Washington. Madigan participates in a unique partnership created in the late 1990s with St. Joseph Medical Center and Tacoma General Hospital called the Tacoma Trauma Trust to provide care to non-beneficiary trauma victims beyond the gates of Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Madigan maintains approximately 220 beds for inpatient care, and can expand to accommodate more than 300 inpatients during periods of urgent need including emergencies. Outpatients are seen at the hospital's medical mall complex handling nearly one million visits annually. Madigan performs more than 45 surgeries, fills nearly 4,000 prescriptions, and delivers eight babies daily. Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities: Serves as a Medical Assistant performing a range of standard patient care procedures in an outpatient primary care or specialty care clinic supporting the delivery of patient centered care. The clinic settings may include but are not limited to Family Practice, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and other sub-specialty clinics. A Certified Medical Assistant may perform the following: duties delegated by, and under the supervision of, a health care practitioner. Core Duties Prepare examination rooms prior to patient's arrival. Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed. Check patient's vital signs, to include temperature, respiration, pulse, weight, blood pressure, and pulse oximeter reading. Obtain and document patient's current medical history, drug history, chief complaints, allergies and vital signs on the correct form. Perform diagnostic procedures when ordered. Maintain examination room stock levels and perform routine maintenance of examination rooms. Complete lab and x-ray requisitions in accordance with clinic policies. Enter demographic data into the computer upon patient check-in; enter diagnosis and departing time when patient is released. Fundamental Procedures Wrapping items for autoclaving. Procedures for sterilizing equipment and instruments. Disposing of biohazardous materials. Practicing standard precautions. Clinical Procedures and Documentation in the Electronic Health Record Competency validation/documentation required for procedures. Performing aseptic procedures, assisting in sterile procedures. Obtains and documents patient data in the comprehensive nursing intake: vital signs, height, weight, allergies, primary complaint and any additional data required by the provider. Preparing and maintaining examination and treatment areas. Preparing patients for any medical examination. Preparing patients for, and assisting with, routine and specialty examinations, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries utilizing no more than local anesthetic. Injections and Vaccinations : Intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular. Observing and reporting patients' complaint, signs or symptoms. Specimen Collection Capillary and venipuncture for blood collection. Obtaining specimens for microbiological testing. Instructing patients in proper technique to collect urine and fecal specimens. Perform and Assist with Diagnostic Testing Electrocardiography. Respiratory testing. Tests waived under the federal clinical laboratory improvement amendments program on July 1, 2013. The department shall periodically update the tests authorized under this subsection (1)(d) based on changes made by the federal clinical laboratory improvement amendments program. Moderate complexity tests if the medical assistant-certified meets standards for personnel qualifications and responsibilities in compliance with federal regulation for non-waived testing. Patient Care Telephone and in-person screening limited to intake and gathering of information without requiring the exercise of judgment based on clinical knowledge. Obtaining vital signs. Obtaining and recording patient history. Preparing and maintaining examination and treatment areas. Preparing patients for, and assisting with, routine and specialty examinations, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries. Maintaining medication and immunization records. Screening and following up on test results as directed by a health care practitioner. Maintaining medication and immunization records. Administering medications. A medical assistant-certified may only administer medications if the drugs are: Administered only by unit or single dosage, or by a dosage calculated and verified by a health care practitioner. For purposes of this section, a combination or multi-dose vaccine shall be considered a unit dose. Limited to legend drugs, vaccines, and Schedule 111-V controlled substances as authorized by a health care practitioner under the scope of his or her license and consistent with rules adopted by the secretary under (f)(ii) of this subsection. Administered pursuant to a written order from a health care practitioner. Urethral catheterization when appropriately trained. A medical assistant-hemodialysis technician may perform hemodialysis when delegated and supervised by a health care practitioner. A medical assistant-hemodialysis technician may also administer drugs and oxygen to a patient when delegated and supervised by a health care practitioner and pursuant to rules adopted by the secretary. A medical assistant-phlebotomist may perform: Capillary, venous, or arterial invasive procedures for blood withdrawal when delegated and supervised by a health care practitioner and pursuant to rules adopted by the secretary. Tests waived under the federal clinical laboratory improvement amendments program on July 1, 2013. The department shall periodically update the tests authorized under this section based on changes made by the federal clinical laboratory improvement amendments program. Moderate and high complexity tests if the medical assistant-phlebotomist meets standards for personnel qualifications and responsibilities in compliance with federal regulation for non-waived testing. Electrocardiograms. Receives and interviews patients. Using the electronic health record, obtains and documents vital data such as height, weight, allergies, primary complaint and any additional data required by the provider and internal SOPs. Obtains and records vital signs using simple diagnostic tools such as a stethoscope, manual and electronic blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, thermometer, and scale. Obtains laboratory specimens for testing including blood, urine (by urinary bladder catheterization if required), stool, and sputum. Performs simple tests in clinic such as urine dipstick, hemoccult, and serum glucose testing by glucometer. Labels specimens accurately and takes specimens to the laboratory when needed. Screens medical records and maintains patient information confidentiality. Assists providers (physicians, nurse practitioners, and/or physician assistants) and performs duties to include chaperone during a variety of exams and procedures (draping, positioning patients, equipment set-up, sterile field and site preparation as needed, and passing instruments and supplies as required). Assistance with procedures include but not limited to: physical examinations, breast exams, pap smears, biopsies colposcopy, cryosurgery, Intrauterine device insertion and removal, punch biopsy, vasectomies and other primary care procedures and treatments. All procedure support will be validated through training and competency assessment by the provider and nursing supervisor. Applies and removes bandages, binders, simple dressings and hot and cold packs. Assists patients in walking, moving, and changing positions and prevents obstruction, dislodgment and unnecessary movement of drainage, suction, and parenteral fluid apparatus. Recognizes life-threatening situations and initiates cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as needed. Alerts the nurse or physician to changes in the patient's condition and assist in emergency treatment. Maintains a safe patient environment, recognizing hazards and takes corrective action. Performs initial processing of specimens obtained during procedures. Cleans up environment at the completion of the procedure. Records subjective and objective observations and patient tolerance to procedure in patient's medical records. Sets up and maintains a variety of medical equipment and supplies common to the primary care setting. Cleans, prepares, picks up and delivers instruments for processing in CMS as indicated. Provides post visit guidance, teaching and follow up instructions. Assists with the check-in of patients and scanning of documents into electronic health record. Schedules follow-up appointments for patients as needed. Answers telephone routing calls, taking messages or giving information on clinic or hospital policy. At the provider's direction, contacts patients telephonically to give follow-up appointment or treatment instruction. Instructs patients in administrative procedures. Coordinates appointments. Schedules patients for procedures. Participates in the orientation of newly assigned personnel. Assists in stocking, replacing and rotating of supplies. Sets up, operates, and performs minor maintenance and upkeep, cleans and properly stores equipment. Other Duties : Perform as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Degree: Certificate. Education: Graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces. Certification: Certified Medical Assistant only. Current certification as a Medical Assistant by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the American Medical Technologists. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Experience: One year of experience as a Medical Assistant after graduation. Licensure/Registration: Hold an active and unrestricted license or certification to practice as a Medical Assistant in the location of the Madigan Army Medical Center. Citizenship : U.S. citizenship. Credentialing : Ability to pass background check and drug screen. Current physical and immunizations. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience working with the military population. Work Location/Hours & Physical Requirements: Physical Requirements: The environment is fast-paced and multifaceted, with conditions and duties that can change quickly throughout a shift. Hours of Performance: The performance hours of the MTF are Monday through Friday generally between the hours of 0800 to 1630.
