Minimum starting pay of 25/hr+ BenefitsJob SummaryPlans, organizes, and ensures that HIM (Health Information Management) operations are standardized, meet regulatory requirements, and support optimal department performance to support the organization's operations. - Collaborates with CDI Manager to ensure patient records are complete and accurate. Manages the inflow and outflow of patient information including release of information. Supports the HIPAA Privacy Officer, maintaining the privacy, safety, and security of records. Nurture effective professional relationships across the organization to instruct, share ideas, and implement actions and process improvements to achieve established standards. - -Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees the daily operations of HIM. - Executes management tasks in an accurate and timely manner. Manages department to meet service and performance expectations. Maintains appropriate staffing levels and competency of staff. Maintains equipment and physical space. Provides effective leadership and oversight of assigned staff; leads by example and provides support, guidance, coaching and performance management when needed. Monitors and manages staff satisfaction and engagement.
  • Monitors all HIM work queues in Epic and assists with Documentation Deficiency Analysis, Provider Suspension, and Incomplete Documentation as needed.
  • Works closely with the Coding Manager to ensure accounts are coded timely and accurately to meet departmental goals and Key Performance Indicator's (KPI) established for chart completion. Works with the Medical Staff in matters of chart completion and documentation.
  • Works closely with department managers to ensure charts are complete in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Serves as a liaison across disciplines.
  • Supports the HIPAA Privacy Officer and Security Officer to ensure privacy, confidentiality laws and regulations are understood and followed by staff.
  • Conducts periodic audits and reviews to monitor HIPAA/privacy compliance and chart access integrity. - Assists with privacy training and orientation to all employees, volunteers, medical and professional staff, and applicable business associates, as needed. Assists in the identification, implementation and maintenance of the organization's information privacy policies and procedures.
  • Participates actively in EMR implementation, development, and maintenance activities. Supports and ensures the integrity of EMR through monitoring and auditing activities.
  • Maintains professional skills and awareness of regulatory changes, compliance issues, innovations and developments in HIM through research and training/continuing education opportunities. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and federal, state, and local laws. Stays abreast of trends and best practices. - Maintains programs and records in good order, as required for efficient and effective operations. Calculates, tracks, and analyzes a variety of statistics; generates timely, accurate and useful reports.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three (3) years of HIM management experience.
  • Prior experience using Electronic Medical Records systems; preferably Epic.
  • Prior experience with release of information and familiarity with HIPAA Privacy regulations.Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) PreferredRequired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary health information management practices and principles and a working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of hospital and clinic operations.
  • Knowledge and experience in information privacy laws, access, release of information, and release control technologies
  • Proficient in the use of current technology, including Microsoft Office products. Intermediate skills in data mining, analysis, and reporting.
  • Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to identify and employ communication strategies appropriate to the audience.
  • Ability to cultivate effective partnerships and work in collaboration with providers, other health care professionals, managers, and patients. Strong leadership, facilitation, delegation, and coaching skills.
  • Ability to develop processes and systems and to maintain accurate documentation and records.
