Director of Operations manages a team of direct reports that
support day to day operations of successful Hospitalist Programs
within an assigned region. They report up to a Regional Vice
President with accountability to the Regional Chief Medical Officer
(s) as well. This role works in a heavily matrixed team, having a
Regional Medical Director as a dyad partner, as well as working
very closely with a Regional Manager, Clinical Performance. About
the Role: The Regional Director of Operations is responsible for,
but not limited to, the operational management and oversight of
multiple Sound Physicians' hospitalist programs in an assigned
region. The Regional Director of Operations will have a visible
presence at several program locations and will focus on
establishing professional relationships with the entire hospitalist
team, hospital and system C-suite executives, case management,
nursing, medical staff office, as well as community providers and
specialty physicians.
The successful leader in this role will play a major role in Sound
Physicians growth in the market, establish business development
relationships, and execute new contractual agreements with clients
in the post- acute and acute care setting. In this role, you will:
- Set and manage to performance objectives for assigned
hospitalist program(s), in cooperation with our hospital partners
wherever appropriate, and in alignment with their goals.
- Support the Regional Manager, Clinical Performance and Clinical
Performance Nurse(s) in their development and execution of clinical
processes.
- Initiate and lead content discussions and preparations for
Joint Operations Committee, Quarterly Performance Reviews, and
other hospital partner interactions, ensuring focus on integration
of all Sound service lines in a "One Sound" manner. Review content
for final sign-off of all client-facing templates (scorecards,
dashboards, action plans) developed
- Meet regularly with each Chief Hospitalist and the Regional
Manager, Clinical Performance to review site performance and
identify opportunities and barriers.
- Proactively utilize Sound and industry knowledge to lead
discussions with hospital partners regarding short term and long
term strategic objectives, effectively communicating where Sound
can provide a solution. Build strong relationships with the C-Suite
at each hospital partner in assigned region, reporting on and
checking in on performance on monthly basis.
- Final oversight for day-to-day site operations including
matters related to payroll, credentialing, human resources,
recruiting, etc. with assistance of direct reports and central
office departments.
- Actively participate in Monthly Operating Reviews, proactively
reviewing site financial statements for accuracy and trends to
explain financial performance. Identify and understand the impact
of variances, and enact plans to address negative variances.
Develop and manager annual budgets and have responsibility for
P&L performance for programs in assigned region.
- Responsible for appropriate gathering and processes of monthly
patient level data files, troubleshooting as necessary.
- Work in the pursuit of new business in the region. Coordinate
individual efforts for new business with Business Development, RVP,
and RCMO (s).
- Complete due diligence and site design for new hospital sites
within region. Create or review proposals for new business and
expansion of current business, including financial proformas.
Understand the financial and operational impacts of program changes
as well as pricing. This includes supporting or leading contract
negotiations and new site implementations in conjunction with main
office departments and RVP.
- Lead new site implementations in conjunction with main office
departments.
- Hire, train and develop team comprised of Hospitalist
Coordinators, Program Managers and/or Regional Managers for
assigned region.
- Manage and track reconciliation dates, PQI submission dates,
contract renewal timelines, and annual escalator anniversary dates
in a timely manner.
- Appropriate escalation of issue/concerns to Regional Vice
President of Operations. A successful candidate will have a

- Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in business administration,
healthcare administration or similar field; MBA, MHA, LEAN-Six
Sigma certification, preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Outlook, Excel,
PowerPoint); knowledge of MS Project
- Knowledge of Process Improvement methodology; LEAN-Six Sigma
for healthcare training is desirable
- Knowledge of relevant state and federal healthcare
regulations
- Working knowledge of healthcare payment models, physician
practice management, revenue cycle, payer contracting, managed care
models, and Accountable Care Organization structure
- Knowledge of Hospital Medicine landscape and market forces
driving the hospitalist model of care
- Understanding of hospitalist physician recruiting, marketing
and compensation issues Experience:
- Minimum: 6-8 years' experience working with healthcare
operational management, including financial statements and working
knowledge of hospital and healthcare informatics, including quality
measures.
- Preferred: 3-4 years' experience managing a physician group
practice
- Experience working in a matrixed environment. Other Details:

- Frequent (18+ trips/year) travel
- Sitting at desk for up to eight hours (w/breaks)
- Working on computer for up to eight hours (w/breaks) Pay Range:
$110,000-$135,000 annually. In addition, Regional Directors are
eligible for a bonus opportunity. Exact pay will be -determined
based on candidate experience, geographical location, and
size/complexity of the program(s) being supported. This job
