Job Description:

Working closely with the CEO, the Director of Development is responsible for leading and managing MDCs fund raising, resource development and advancement. This position is highly visible and will represent MDC to engage donors, funders, and stakeholders in the strategic advancement of MDC.The Director of Development ensures that the agencys fund development strategic plan is created and an annual funding plan with goals and objectives is achieved. This includes:Cultivating and engaging with individual and institutional donors (corporations, foundations and organizations), sponsors, and third party funders.Strategic execution and management of a comprehensive giving program to increase the organization's support from individuals.Working with the agencys grant writer to develop and expand the agency's relationships with funders.Developing and managing the gift acquisition cycle, including upgrade and renewal processes, and strategies for recruitment retention and acquisition of donors/funders along the entire giving spectrum.The position requires respect for donor confidentiality, flexibility, and the ability to prioritize changing needs. The most successful candidate will bring professional experience and comprehensive understanding of fundraising and relationship building.Fundraising:Develops and executes short and long term fundraising strategies which are both strategic and tactical in nature.Develops strategies and approaches to diversify the base of support and generate increasing levels of giving through various development strategies.Provides strategy and leadership for individual giving programs, including the management of a comprehensive strategy to implement highly ambitious long- and short-term individual giving goals.Establishes and maintains a highly engaging donor cultivation cycle and gift stewardship program to ensure that new donors are developed, existing donors are to upgrade; and all donors are recognized for their contributions.Ensures that programs are in place for all donors to receive appropriate, consistent recognition and accounting of the impact of their gifts.Attends strategically important donor calls/meetings to ensure a growing base of support for the organization.Understanding of the needs and interests of all individual donors in order to develop relationships between them and MDC.Innovation:Leads creation of new strategies and plans for fundraising campaigns.Develops innovative approaches and initiatives to increase the community profile.Develops innovative recognition opportunities, materials, and events for continuity and donor stewardship.Creates strategies to market the organizations leadership role to donors.Creates the strategic direction for seeking funding from corporate and business supporters, private, and corporate foundations and other community supporters. Works with the grant writers to research current and potential funding sources.Oversee cultivation of new funding opportunities (e.g., grants, endowments, individual donors, corporate sponsorships, service clubs, and other businesses/organizations).Public Relations:Acts as a goodwill ambassador for the organization to all its customer and stakeholder groups; acts as a spokesperson when required.Prepares and delivers speeches and presentations to organizations, business groups and boards.Serves as a positive and professional representative to individuals, businesses, foundations, and the community to create and maintain relationships that will assist in reaching the fundraising goals.Develops compelling case statements and proposals for foundation and corporate funders. Develops and maintains relationships with key funders.Represents MDC at giving events, presentations, center tours, and United Way Kick-off campaignsWorks with communications and CEO on engagement initiatives and social media outreach.Management:Creates annual written fundraising plan with clear objectives, target audiences, timelines, and assignment of responsibilities to meet each year's fund raising goals.Continuously realigns aspects of the departments operations to facilitate and reinforce the effectiveness of strategic plans.Works closely with staff to understand programmatic goals, objectives, and needs.Participates regularly in management and leadership meetings.Leads and manages the affairs of the department, including budgeting.Organizes or participates in community initiatives to promote the organization and philanthropy.Works closely with all the other directors on all organizational marketing and communications initiatives.Ensures input of accurate donor information to database on a regular basis and oversees the tracking system to track foundation and corporate requests and applications, gifts and awards, reapplication dates; key relationships, reporting deadlines, site visits, and other contacts.Develops and tracks monthly, quarterly, and annual foundation fundraising goals to ensure success is achieved and goals secured.Oversees all grant reporting activities to funders, Board, Directors, Etc.Works with finance to provide data necessary for reporting to funding sources and other external requirements.Creates and monitors the resource development budget.Bachelor's degree from an accredited universityMust possess a minimum of eight (8) years of fund development experience, including annual giving, major gifts, and grant writing.Proven experience in individual gift fundraising experience, and in cultivating and soliciting gifts at all levels.Proven success in major gifts, including cultivating and soliciting high-level gifts.Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising "-- - - able to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: (1) to initiate contacts with potential donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) to make solicitations when appropriate; (5) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors.Manage multiple tasks with an ability to reset priorities at any given time.Comfort working autonomously and as part of a team, as well as the ability to work varied hours, including nights and weekends as necessary.Ability pass a background check.Valid Driver License and reliable transportation.
