GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:----------------The Accounting Manager, under the direction of the Director, Financial and Administrative Services Division, is responsible for the accounting activities of the Association.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Within the limits of authorized Association policies, procedures, programs, and budgets, the Accounting Manager is responsible for the following duties:1.------------------Prepares Monthly Financial Statements for APA & EWTA using Microsoft Great Plains as required to meet Association needs and generally accepted accounting practices.2.------------------Prepares and files Monthly State B&O Tax Returns for APA, Quarterly Canadian GST, Quebec QST and Tacoma City Tax Returns. Prepares Property Tax Returns for Pierce and Cobb Counties.--Prepares miscellaneous returns like the Annual FBAR report and IRS 720, Federal Excise Tax Return for the 2nd Quarter of the year.3.------------------Completes corporate registrations in all the locations it is required.4.------------------Oversees the production of annual compensation and benefit statements that go out to all active employees. 5.------------------Responsible for Cash Management and Investment Portfolio per Association needs and guidelines.6.------------------Responsible for monthly Bank Reconciliations for APA-General, Canada, EWTA and Atlanta Lab.7.------------------Supervises accounts payable and receivable using Great Plains and payroll using Fidelity.8.------------------Verifies account codes, receipts and reimbursement of expenses and daily checks. 9.------------------Provides support and backup for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll. 10.----------Prepares for and interfaces with auditors for annual APA financial statement audit.11.----------Accounting for special programs and activities of APA done in collaboration with other associations.12.----------Validates ACH transactions and wires initiated through on-line banking services and Association credit card program.13.----------Provides back-up support for Association benefits and fleet programs.14.----------Back up and review of FAS project activities including monthly expense and reimbursement claims, year-end contribution reports for MAP and FMD, and reports and reimbursement claims for Canadian Foreign Market Development Program. Assists with the Compliance Audits for the FAS and Canadian programs.15.----------Improve efficiency of the accounting team through development and leadership; and establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls to guarantee compliance with policies and procedures.16.----------Special projects as assigned by the Treasurer.QUALIFICATIONS:--To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential--functions.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Requires BS/BA degree in Accounting/Finance, or equivalent, and 5-7 years of relevant experience including knowledge of Great Plains, familiarity with the annual budgeting process and a strong systems background, particularly with spreadsheet analysis utilizing Excel.--Excellent communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills are necessary, CPA preferred but not required.LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial statements, legal documents, procedure manuals and government regulations.--Ability to write routine reports, memos and correspondence and to orally communicate with APA personnel and customers is needed.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages is required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:--While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.--The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop; and talk or hear. --The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.--Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. --Must be able to travel using public and private modes of transportation.WORK ENVIRONMENT:--The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet with routine distractions.
