Company Background:Alta Forest Products is the world's largest
producer of wood fence boards, specializing in Western Red Cedar
and other premium species found in the Pacific and Inland Northwest
forests. In addition to producing fence boards and pallet stock
lumber, Alta's zero-wood-waste sawmills produce by-products such as
wood chips, sawdust, mulch and bio-fuel. Headquartered in
centrally-located Chehalis, Washington, Alta operates fence board
sawmills in four other rural communities in the region: Morton, WA;
Shelton, WA; Amanda Park, WA, and Naples, ID.The Role: As a
Mechanical Engineering Technician, your role would be to collect
all legacy cad data from each of the mill sites and develop
comprehensive site maps for each location. These site maps will
include all utilities, topographic detail, building locations, and
processing equipment locations. In addition to the site maps, the
candidate will be an integral contributor to developing a document
control system utilizing SolidWorks Vault for the site maps, legacy
data, and future drawings and modeling databases.The individual in
this position will report to the Corporate Project Manager and is
responsible for a number of specific tasks but not limited to the
outlined belowResponsibilities:
- Create and maintain site maps for all locations, utilizing
legacy project data including civil and mechanical layouts of all
equipment on-site.
- Designated technical and mechanical design resource for the
creation of drawings for maintenance projects performed by in-house
maintenance crews.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Secondary degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering from
an accredited institution with 3+ years field experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to conceptualize and
create mechanical designs.
- Proficiency in using Solidworks modeling, 2D & 3D CAD design
software. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is
beneficial.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and
technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of
employees, including production personnel, mill management, and
senior leaders.Work Environment This role will operate in both a
professional office, log yards, and sawmill sites. While performing
the duties of this job, employees may be exposed to moving
mechanical parts.Position Type/Travel This is a full-time position,
Monday, through Friday. Occasional weekend work may be required as
projects or job duties demand. Travel is expected for this
position, as it will combine a mixture of in-office and fieldwork
to support all four NW mills.Physical Demands The physical demands
