to: Maintenance Manager This position is a safety sensitive
position subject to FTA preemployment, random drug and alcohol
testing throughout the term of employment. Application must be
accompanied by a copy of Driver's License and current three (3)
year Driver's Abstract, obtainable from the Dept. of Licensing.
Must have a least a Class B CDL and passenger endorsement. Job
Summary This position is a union bargaining position under the
direction of the Maintenance Manager. Under general supervision,
performs journey-level work in the repair and maintenance of gas
and diesel-powered automobiles, medium and heavy trucks, buses,
grounds maintenance and other equipment. Repairs related systems
such as pumps, transmissions, carburetors, hydraulics, brakes and
others. Work is performed with significant latitude to diagnose and
repair assigned equipment and is reviewed through direct
observation, results achieved, customer satisfaction and individual
conference. Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
Position requires ability to work weekends or shifts as shifts are
assigned by Seniority Bid. This job description is not intended and

with this job. Nature of Work Services and performs preventive
maintenance of all transit coaches, paratransit vans, public use
vanpool vans, maintenance vehicles and equipment. Inspects
equipment; identifies problems; records findings, reports repair
needs, and makes recommendations for future service needs. Uses
computerized equipment to diagnose and program engine and
transmission control systems to optimize performance; performs
safety inspections; tunes, adjusts and services cars, trucks, buses
and other automotive vehicles or transit equipment; may change and
repair tires. Uses manual and computerized diagnostic equipment and
communicates with users to identify equipment problems, and/or
repairs equipment to restore to original equipment manufacturers
(OEM) tolerances and standards. Repairs, overhauls or rebuilds gas
or diesel engines, pumps, transmissions, carburetors, hydraulic
cylinders and systems, alternators, generators, brake systems,
electrical and electronic systems including multiplexing, drive
trains, suspension systems, steering, carburetion and fuel
injection systems, emission systems, exhaust systems, wheel chair
and other accessibility assistance systems, and other equipment.
Operates lathes, drills and other shop machines; uses acetylene,
MIG and arc welding equipment in fabricating and repairing
equipment; tests and repairs electrical systems; modifies or
repairs exhaust systems. Records repairs and inspection of vehicles
and equipment. Assists with annual inventory of parts and
equipment. Ensures individual work area is clean and organized to
maintain accessibility and prevent accidents and unsafe conditions.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities --- Requires regular and
reliable attendance. --- Skill in the use of jacks, wrenches,
grease guns, hydraulic hoists, cleaning materials, precision tools
and equipment used in the service and repair of heavy equipment.
--- The ability to understand and carry out oral and written
instructions. --- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions
followed in heavy equipment repair shops --- Working knowledge of
modern methods, tools and equipment of the diesel and automotive
mechanical trade; --- Working knowledge of the operation and
mechanics of all diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines.
--- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions followed in
diesel equipment repair shops. --- Ability to locate and correct
defects in diesel automotive equipment. --- Ability to understand
and carry out written and oral instructions. --- Ability to work
effectively with a wide variety of individuals, including other
transit employees, outside contractors, suppliers, and the public.
--- Ability to report to work on time and maintain a reliable
attendance record to assure efficient and effective performance of
job duties. --- Ability to work effectively under pressure. ---

--- Ability to follow directions from a supervisor Qualifications,
Licenses & Certificates Any combination of education and experience
equivalent to completion of high school and completion of an
apprenticeship in automotive equipment repair, journey-level
mechanic status, or certification of ASE certification as a master
automotive technician or master medium/heavy-duty technician. Any
specialized training and education is helpful. Possession of a
valid Washington State Commercial Driver's License, Class A or B
and air brake restrictions removed. Any specialized training and
education is helpful. Special Requirements Must be able to pass a
Department of Transportation Physical and Substance Abuse test
prior to employment. All applicants must be able to provide proof
of eligibility to work in the United States prior to employment.
Physical Activities/Requirements Work is performed primarily
indoors. Continuous use of both hands in reaching, handling,
grasping, fingering while performing duties operating/working on
various vehicles, equipment and machinery. On rare occasions may be
required to lift heavier weight with assistance of others or
mechanical devices up to 100 pounds. Occasionally ascends/descends
stairs, ladders, and inclines while maintaining balance. Physical
strength and ability sufficient to perform manual labor for
extended periods under extreme wet and cold, and generally
unpleasant conditions. Continuously bending/twisting at
knees/waist/neck/wrists while performing mechanical repairs and
maintenance items. Occasional kneeling/crouching/crawling while
making repairs in an awkward position. May work at heights, alone,
with others, or in noisy work area. Continuously moving, sitting or
standing for excessive periods of time. May work outside with all
weather extremes, be exposed to smoke, electrical hazards, noxious
odors, fumes, vapors, or chemicals, and/or unsanitary conditions.
Continuous use of all senses including
feeling/talking/hearing/seeing while performing duties and while
communicating with co-workers, general public and completing all
tasks as assigned. Must be able to distinguish color and maintain
long-term and short-term memory. Will be required to wear safety
protective gear. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable

functions. Unusual Working Conditions May perform shift work and
work overtime as may be required. Must provide and maintain in the
workplace a set of tools as required. This position requires
significant physical ability and dexterity including: frequent
standing and walking for prolonged periods on concrete surfaces;
lifting and carrying parts, tools and equipment; pushing/pulling or
forcibly moving heavy parts and equipment; bending, twisting at the
waist, knees, and neck; working in awkward positions and in cramped
quarters; kneeling, crouching and crawling; reaching, handling
fingering and grasping requiring fine finger manipulations using
both hands and arms; use of speech, hearing, sight feeling and
sense of smell; and, eye/foot coordination. Other Requirements ---
Knowledge of computer programs and process to read and maintain
records in Fleet Software. --- Knowledge and experience with
Computer Based Diagnostic Software --- Ability to work effectively
with a wide variety of individuals, including other transit
employees, outside contractors, suppliers, and the public. --- All
